Our Continuing Medical Education Mission at SDPC
The San Diego Psychoanalytic Center’s Continuing Medical Education (CME) program is committed to delivering high-quality, evidence-informed educational experiences that enhance clinical competence, improve practice performance, and support better patient outcomes in psychoanalytic and psychodynamic care.
The SDPC CME program strives to:
- Improve clinical competence by strengthening learners’ ability to apply psychoanalytic concepts in patient care.
- Enhance performance in practice through case-based learning and post-activity reflection.
- Support better patient outcomes by equipping learners with tools to respond more effectively to the psychological needs of diverse individuals and communities.
Educational outcomes are continuously assessed by both staff and the CME Committee to identify opportunities for growth. When areas for improvement are found, updates to the program are thoughtfully developed and implemented as part of an ongoing effort to enhance its effectiveness.
SDPC Continuing Medical Education (CME) Program
The SDPC Continuing Medical Education (CME) program is focused beyond just education; our goal is to engage clinicians in learning to deepen clinical insight and enhance therapeutic effectiveness. Through our evidence-informed, reflective, and practice-relevant learning activities, we aim for the following outcomes:
- Deepened Clinical Insight: Participants gain a more nuanced understanding of psychoanalytic principles and current mental health practices, enabling more thoughtful, patient-centered care.
- Sharpened Professional Judgment: Learners report greater confidence in making complex clinical decisions by integrating theory, ethics, and evidence.
- Bridging Knowledge Gaps: Programs are crafted around real-world challenges identified by our members—ensuring that content speaks directly to the evolving demands of clinical practice.
- Practice-Ready Applications: Educational content is translated into practical strategies, tools, and interventions that clinicians can apply immediately in therapeutic settings.
- Cultural Responsiveness and Equity: Activities embed critical competencies in cultural awareness, linguistic accessibility, and bias mitigation to support inclusive, effective care.
- Enhanced Confidence and Competence: Learners reflect increased comfort and ability when facing clinical uncertainty, ambiguity, or resistance.
- Tracking Growth Over Time: Through participant feedback and self-assessment, we evaluate how our programming contributes to long-term improvements in patient engagement, therapeutic relationships, and care outcomes.
