Dr. Khatami is a board certified psychiatrist that specializes in working with adults in his private practice in La Jolla.  He has experience working with a wide range of problems, some of which include issues related to ADHD, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, and difficulties in relationships, work, or school.  He understands that each patient is unique, requiring an individualized approach to assessment and treatment.  He strives to work with each patient in exploring the root of their difficulties and help with finding more adaptive ways to alleviate their suffering.

In addition to medical and psychiatric training, Dr. Khatami has advanced training in psychoanalytic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.  This approach allows him to work with patients in a deep, insight-oriented manner to help them gain awareness of self-defeating patterns or behaviors and ultimately change them.

His emphasis is on providing individual therapy, in the form of talk therapy. When indicated, he will prescribe medications to treat particular symptoms, collaborating closely with the patient in this decision making process.

Dr. Khatami is also a Voluntary Assistant Clinical Professor at the UCSD Department of Psychiatry, and allocates part of his time to teaching and supervising UCSD psychiatry residents.
