Davis A. Suskind, M.D. is a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, specializing in the evaluation and treatment of emotional and self-esteem difficulties, via understanding the inter-relationship between the mind and the brain at various levels. I strive to assess both the biological and the psychological substrates, to synthesize and implement an individualized treatment strategy that amalgamates both biology and psychology. Most of my patients come for consultation due to problems with self-esteem, anxiety, depression, problems in succeeding, inhibitions, or difficulties making certain life transitions (e.g. school, career, family, mid-life, retirement, bereavement).
I often assist people to navigate their emotional issues within the context of their competing physical health issues. The goal is to achieve an appropriate psychotherapy and/or medication strategy. I have often served as consultant and supervisor to mental health professionals. Since 1976, I have actively been involved in teaching psychodynamic psychotherapy at UCSD (Voluntary Associate Professor of Clinical Psychiatry).
